The High Performance target!

I took my young son to see a symphony a few years ago. We arrived and they were warming up and tuning. "Dad, this is terrible, they don't know how to play...did you already pay for this?"

Like an orchestra, to create the right music we must be in tune, aligned and coordinated.

High performance is about the right alignment to the right things.

I work with teams who are initially absorbed in 'efficiency' (doing things right). What does it matter if we are smooth at the wrong things? They are in tune but they are not playing the music that matters.

When the team targets effectiveness first (doing the right things) they find alignment. Alignment to each other and alignment to the most meaningful music to play!

Efficiency-first is just motion. Effectiveness-first is progress.

Where is your focus?
